Take Care with Candles

In the last 20 years, the number of home fires by candles has continued to increase. Thirty-five percent of candle fires were the result of unattended, abandoned or inadequately controlled candles. Another 17% of candle fires occurred because some form of combustible material was left too close to the candle.

 
bulletNever leave burning candles unattended.
bulletBurn on protected heat-resistant surfaces, away from combustible material and out of reach of children and pets.
bulletKeep wick trimmed to 1/4" at all times.
bulletPrevent flame’s contact with glass.
bulletKeep wick centered and avoid drafts.
bulletDiscontinue use when 1/2" of wax remains.
bulletJar may become hot: handle carefully.
bulletOnly burn 3 hours at a time.
bulletAvoid jar to jar contact. Explosion may occur.
bulletDo not use if jar is chipped or cracked.
bulletBefore lighting, remove wick trimmings, matches or any flammable material.
