Due to the construction costs of chimneys - either pre-fabricated or masonry - sometimes as much as $3,000 for single story homes, many new construction and retrofit homes are installing Kerosene (Monitor-type) heaters. These heaters are being sold as "Central heating systems" but are clearly listed by Underwriters Laboratories as Space Heaters.
