 | Use extension cords only on a temporary basis. |
 | Put safety covers on unused receptacle outlets and
extension cords. |
 | Unplug the appliance and call an electrician if the
receptacle faceplate feels hot or if there is sparking, smoke or odor
coming from the outlet, plug or appliance. |
 | Examine cords (appliances and extensions) regularly
for signs of wear and tear or damage to the insulation. |
 | Unplug all nonessential electrical appliances when
not in use. |
 | Test ground fault circuit interrupters periodically
according to manufacturer's instructions to determine that they are
working properly. |
 | Use only extension cords that have been listed by a
registered certified organization, such as Underwriters Laboratories,
Inc. (UL). |
