What The Company Is

MMG Insurance Company is a progressive, regional property/casualty insurance company that carries an A.M. Best A- (Excellent) rating. Over its history, MMG has evolved to a regional company, entering the State of Vermont in 1981, New Hampshire in 1984 and Pennsylvania in 2006. At this time, approximately 49% of our business is written in the State of Maine, 31.6% in New Hampshire, 15.4% in the State of Vermont and 4% in the State of Pennsylvania. MMG maintains a Regional Office in Concord, New Hampshire to provide exceptional service to the agents in that state. We have gained a prominent position in the Personal Lines marketplace throughout our entire region by offering a wide array of products. Our unique packaging concept, known as "Portfolio", comprises approximately two-thirds of the total premium volume written by the Company. MMG also offers a variety of Commercial Lines products including Businessowner, Special Trade Contractor, Farmowner, Commercial Auto and Commercial Umbrella. Commercial Lines represents 29% of the Company's premium volume and has seen significant growth in the past several years.

MMG Insurance Company's Home Office in Presque Isle, Maine

The Company was established in Houlton, Maine in 1897 in response to the needs of a group of local farmers. The members of the group paid a small fee at the beginning of the policy term and each member was assessed periodically as fires occurred. In 1906, the Company was relocated to Presque Isle, Maine and shared offices with other local insurance companies which, together, became known as Maine Mutual Group. Throughout the years, several of these small mutual companies pooled their resources and have grown into what is today known as MMG Insurance Company. In 1988, Maine Mutual Fire Insurance Company moved its headquarters from Main Street to a modern, 27,000 square foot facility on Maysville Street in Presque Isle. The facility was designed not only to meet the Company’s current needs, but to offer opportunities as MMG expands into the future.

In March 2002, the Company completed the transformation to a mutual holding company, resurrecting the Maine Mutual Group name. We strongly believe the mutual holding company structure will be beneficial to policyholders and the Company. This structure allows for the continuation of mutuality, while providing the Company with enhanced responsiveness in a changing marketplace and the stability of decision making with a long-term view. It will also provide greater financial flexibility, allowing the Company to compete on a more level playing field with its stockheld competitors. Finally, this structure will allow Maine Mutual Group to remain the company it is today with the ability to take its successful business model into the future.
